Like many first-time buyers, Marcos Guerrero and his wife Alice Sun had an incentive to buy their first home: the $8,000 tax credit offered by the federal government.
"We wanted to buy a home, and when we heard about the credit we decided we were ready," Guerrero says. "We were living in an apartment, and we began our search. A friend looked at Liberty Lakes in Wauconda and told us about the community."
"When we visited, we fell in love with the Dixon, especially the large kitchen and master bedroom. We were impressed with the attractive homes, landscaped entrance, parks, ponds and preserved wetlands," he says.
The Dixon floor plan is a two-story home with approximately 2,638 square feet, four bedrooms, 2.5 baths, and two-car garage. The main floor includes a living room and dining room separated from the family room by columns. The informal living area situated in the rear overlooks the back yard. It includes a large kitchen with walk-in pantry, breakfast nook and spacious family room.
Upstairs, a loft that can serve as a second family room, office or play room is a popular feature. The master bedroom includes a huge walk-in closet and private bath. Three other bedrooms are served by a hall bath, and a second-floor laundry room is another step-saver.
"We felt the Dixon was ideally planned for our busy lives, and we didn't see the need for adding many options; however, we did want a basement," Guerrero says. "We feel fortunate to live at Liberty Lakes, a lovely community yet one that is also affordable. The Millennium Trail winds through the neighborhood and is great for walking, jogging or horseback riding. Shopping, restaurants and Bangs Lake are nearby, so there is plenty of opportunity for recreation."
Liberty Lakes will include over 1200 homes when complete. Sales are taking place in the final phase, which includes 14 floor plans with ranch and two-story designs, ranging in size from 2,052 to 3,238 square feet. Standard plans include three or four bedrooms, 2.5 baths, optional basements, and two- and three-car attached garages. Prices start at $199,995, and two model homes are open daily for viewing.
To reach Liberty Lakes, take Route 12 north to Route 176, and turn right (east) on Route 176 to Fairfield Road. Turn left (north) on Fairfield and follow to Gilmer Road. Turn left on the Gilmer Road exit ramp and turn right. Turn right on Sedgebrook Drive.
