New Home Notebook – New homes & condos in Chicago & suburbs

Posted 3/3/2010 by Joseph Askins

The old Mallinckrodt College building at 1041 Ridge Rd has been a fixture in Wilmette and the North Shore for almost a century. The 180,000 square-foot building stands on 14 acres of park space near Lake Michigan, putting it just a short walk or bus ride away from Wilmette's shops and restaurants and the Metra's rail line into Chicago.

In 2005, the building was converted to the Mallinckrodt in the Park condo and senior living development, but many of its historic details and spaces remain intact. When Joe Zekas and Coldwell Banker agent Ted Pickus toured the homes recently, they started by discussing the history of the building from its time as a college to its residential conversion.
