Dirty house probably cost sellers thousands of dollars

The owners of a home in suburban Chicago have dropped their asking price by $33,000 in part because the home is so damn dirty that it’s putting off buyers, according to an agent who writes for the Web site Chicago Metro Area Real Estate. There are probably several reasons the home has been slow to sell, of course, but as the agent notes, it would have been cheaper for the homeowners to engage a professional cleaner than drop the price so substantially. One of the agent’s clients didn’t bother venturing upstairs once he or she saw the state of the home.
This reminds us of New Homes Magazine columnist Don Debat’s recent piece about preparing your home for sale in winter, where an expert was quoted as saying that basic yardwork can add thousands to the value of a property. Yo wants to hear from homebuyers and sellers with similar stories.
